Corta Nilsson
Grade 2 Teacher
I was born and raised in the U.S. but have lived in the Middle East for the past 10 years. Funny enough, I did not start my career as a teacher. I originally graduated with a Bachelor of Science, then again attended school to become a Registered Nurse, and eventually earned a Master's in Early Childhood Education. During my nursing career, I worked at a teaching hospital for 10 years. Although I loved nursing, the demanding hours became challenging with a young family. Fast forward, here I am in Bahrain, teaching. I've discovered that teaching and nursing share many similarities, and as a nurturer at heart, I experience the same fulfillment I felt when saving lives. My guiding force is to be the teacher I never had in Elementary School. I strive to create a safe and engaging learning environment where students enjoy coming to school.

Julia HalL
Grade 2 Teacher
I’m originally from the U.S. and have been teaching internationally since 2017. I hold a Master’s degree in Primary Education and TESOL, and I came to teaching as a second career—something that has deepened my appreciation for the learning journey, both my own and my students’. Much of my experience has been with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. I value creating a classroom where students feel proud to share their language and culture, and where they can also learn from one another. I encourage students to reflect on both what they are learning and how they are learning, helping them develop the metacognitive skills needed to become lifelong learners. In our classroom, I strive to make student thinking visible, balance structure with choice, and create plenty of opportunities for active participation.

Christopher Boatwright

It’s sometimes strange to reflect on where I started and where I’ve ended up. I’ve always had a passion for traveling and reading and have pursued both above all else. I was born and raised in a small town in the Flint Hills of Kansas. At an early age, I began traveling abroad—backpacking across Europe and Central America, always with a book in hand and a smile on my face. I eventually moved to Kansas City, which I consider home, and graduated from the University of Missouri–Kansas City with a degree in Language and Literature. During that time, I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, focusing on Latin American literature. After graduating in 2012, I moved overseas and have been teaching English abroad ever since—in South Korea, China, and then nearly a decade in Prague. That’s where I met my wife and where our son was born. Now, we’re excited to start our next chapter in Bahrain at ASB.

KennETH O’KanE
History and TOK Teacher
Being born and raised in the capital city of Northern Ireland Belfast, my students can expect some Irish humour if they have me as a teacher. I will endeavour to make learning in History and TOK challenging yet enjoyable. Briefly, my background is as follows: I have twenty seven years of teaching experience in countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Qatar, I began my teaching career in England where I taught for two years before venturing overseas. I have also gained experience teaching English as a second language when working with an NGO in Cambodia and took some time off teaching in 2016 by engaging in volunteer work for the UNHCR on the Jordan/Syrian border. I support the judgment that in the 21st Century creativity is as important as literacy and should be afforded the same status. I attempt to ensure that students are not ‘educated out’ of their creative capacities by the restrictions imposed by content based learning. I feel that students must be encouraged to create knowledge, not regurgitate it. As a new teacher at ASB I'm excited about the year ahead and I hope to learn and develop alongside my students.
