New Senior Leaders as ASB set for 2022 IB Rollout

In its ongoing effort to elevate student experience and quality of education, the American School of Bahrain recently onboarded two new appointees to key positions at the school.

Dr. Juan Saavedra will be joining as the Middle and High School Principal, while Casey Bucheler will be the new coordinator of the school’s Early Childhood Center.

Dr. Saavedra has over 28 years of educational experience, with 18 years as a High School principal. Formerly an IB Biology teacher and IB coordinator, he has worked around the world in countries including the UK, Kuwait, China, Columbia and the Ivory Coast. Importantly for the school, Dr. Saavedra has served, multiple times, on accreditation teams for the Council of International Schools (CIS), a body which performs rigorous school-wide evaluations to ensure that schools align with internationally benchmarked standards, and would thus be able to strategically guide the school and upgrade its quality standards.

Commenting on his appointment, he said, “I am really impressed with the way ASB operates and would give the school top marks in any evaluation. My role at the school will be to guide the organization towards achieving several strategic objectives, which include academic growth and further improving the student experience.”

As an early childhood educator with over 30 years of experience, Casey Bucheler has extensive knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) and the Reggio Emilia approach. Both these programmes emphasize self-directed and experiential learning; Casey’s experience therefore aligns with American School of Bahrain’s own ‘experiential learning’ philosophy that allows young children to be agents of their own education.

Dave McMaster, the school’s Founding Director, commented, “ASB focuses on providing the best educational system to empower students to achieve academic success and become independent thinkers. Both Dr. Saavedra and Ms. Bucheler, being so closely aligned with our philosophy, will undoubtedly add to the school’s growing momentum towards becoming one of the best in the region.”

American School of Bahrain, being an Esol Education school, provides holistic American and International education to its students. It aims to create ideal learning environments and attract the right educators to develop a strong international curriculum, as well as guarantee a diverse range of activities and opportunities to enable students to be well balanced individuals.
